Anticipation makes them more resilient to local and global disruptions.
Given that disruption has become the norm and global supply chains face unprecedented challenges due to geopolitical conflicts and technological transformations, among other factors, companies must reinvent themselves to stay competitive.
Five Pillars for Reinvention
The study highlights that supply chains must transform into adaptive, sustainable, and cognitive ecosystems to respond to change and create new value. To achieve this, PwC proposes five key pillars that companies should consider:
Resilience to Disruptions:
Only 12% of surveyed companies have fully adapted their supply chains to be more resilient. However, 83% of leaders believe that production relocation or nearshoring is a crucial strategy to reduce costs, improve delivery times, and minimize carbon footprint.
Compliance with ESG Criteria:
Regulatory and social pressure is driving companies to adopt more sustainable practices. While only 12% of companies have fully implemented key sustainability capabilities, 66% have ongoing initiatives. Leading companies are prioritizing decarbonization and supplier visibility to meet environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.
Customer-Oriented Business Models:
Consumers demand faster deliveries, greater value, and sustainable practices. Only 8% of companies have fully adopted customer-centric business models, but 41% are in the process of doing so. Omnichannel strategies and flexible transportation management are key to meeting these expectations.
Talent Shortage:
The lack of skilled personnel is a growing challenge. 75% of companies are implementing AI-driven intelligent processes and automation to offset the talent gap. Additionally, technological training for employees is essential to adapt to the new roles required by technological advancements.
Technological Evolution:
Although only 4% of companies have fully adapted their supply chains to new technologies, tools such as Digital Twins, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced robotic systems are transforming business operations. These technologies enable greater visibility, process optimization, and real-time decision-making.
Leading companies are radically transforming their supply chains to become more adaptable and future-ready. According to the report, those that have already started their transformation are gaining significant competitive advantages. For those that have yet to begin, now is the time to act.
